Tread Lightly Tuesday

Tread Lightly Tuesday is going to be a weekly post bringing you little tips and tricks to be more environmentally friendly.

This weeks tip is simply turn off your lights!

That's right, it's quick, it's simple, it's easy and we all know we should do it, but often we don't. So I'm here to remind you that you should. And if you have kids, I recommend teaching them this from a young age as they will automatically do so for the rest of their life - I speak from experience! Thanks Mum!

Another set of lights that we need to turn off is those pesky little red standby lights, you know the ones I mean, the ones you use at night to get your bearings! Turn them off! You don't really need them! But if you really feel you need the TV on standby so you can turn it on with the remote at a moments notice, then at the very least turn the standby light off overnight - on some gadgets it's as simple as pressing a button on the actual gadget but on others it will mean unplugging the device or turning it off at the wall. I know it sounds annoying but you get used to doing this very quickly....and think of the money you'll save on electricity.

Speaking of standby lights and just flashing lights in general there's one modern day gadget that's a big culprit...your Internet modem. I have no idea why they need so many lights and why they flash or don't flash, but that's not important just turn the modem off when you're not using the net and you'll be reducing your electricity consumption.

Now if all this turning on and off at the wall sounds like too much to do to help the planet, then I understand and so to do the makers of this little gadget:

Enviro Shop

This may look like an everyday powerboard but this  Master/Slave Automatic Power Saving Powerboard automatically stops your devices on standby from using any standby power! Magic!

You can purchase it along with lots of other environmentally friendly goodies here: Enviro Shop

Or you can find it online from other stockists or in some hardware stores!
